Legal Counsel & Representation for Florida Local Governments and Municipalities
Waugh PLLC is uniquely suited to assisting local governments and municipalities and their agencies throughout the State of Florida. The substance of our practice covers all the types of legal concerns that local officials and agency personnel encounter in their community-based work. Our law practice spans the entire state, including all federal and state courts, so we also are able to represent government clients in any court in Florida when necessary.
Attorney Christian Waugh acquired a special fondness for working on local government and municipal law issues early in his legal career as an associate in private practice. His dedication to handling community-level legal matters continued to grow over the decade of his practice. He currently serves as the Town Attorney for Hilliard, Florida and Pierson, Florida, and as a Special Master for Code enforcement in Citrus County under Chapter 162 of the Florida Statutes.
Christian finds it especially rewarding to help local officials and agency personnel find ways to serve the community and local citizens more effectively and efficiently. On any particular day, that work may include a variety of tasks, such as drafting or interpreting local ordinances and regulations, analyzing federal and state laws and rules, reviewing contracts, and providing counsel and advice on many types of different issues.
Providing counsel and representation for a Florida locality requires a lawyer to be a jack of all trades — and Christian relishes the challenge. Just as he handles a wide range of different types of matters in his practice, he has the experience and knowledge to assist his local government and municipality clients on any issue they may encounter.
Christian’s goals in local government work include being there for everybody, anytime they need assistance — or even if someone just needs to vent. He addresses the concerns of individuals and government bodies, all the while striving to keep everyone working together as a team. The range of work that Waugh PLLC can provide for local governments includes (but is not limited to) the following:
- Real estate, including eminent domain and inverse condemnation
- Federal and state litigation and appeals
- Land use planning and zoning
- Labor and employment
- Police and law enforcement
- Ordinance drafting, review, and interpretation
- Interpretation of state and federal laws and regulations
- Environmental law
- Public liability
- Policies, procedures, and compliance
- Training seminars and workshops
To Christian, his local government clients are family. He becomes part of the community, grows with it, and works continuously to achieve stability within the government and the community. For him, the ultimate reward and satisfaction is seeing the good that his clients accomplish for their constituents and the community as a whole.
